An elderly southern widow has recently lost her husband and is often visited by a lonely bachelor who lives nearby. She also receives visits from an elderly female friend who lives next door. Her emotionally disturbed husband disapproves of these visits and in a drunken outburst tells his wife that she should stop these visits and stay home. Further complicating his state of mind is the presence of the bachelor, an innocent man that he considers a threat to his marriage.
