A man returns to his family in the South after spending most of his adult life in New York City. The family consists of his elderly mother and younger brother and sister. He is haunted by old memories as new problems within the family begin to develop. He spends time doing repairs, gardening, visiting neighbors, but after a while he becomes frustrated and restless with rural living and returns to New York City.
