Full Synopsis

A man returns to his family in the South after spending most of his adult life in New York City. The family consists of his elderly mother and younger brother and sister. He is haunted by old memories as new problems within the family begin to develop. He spends time doing repairs, gardening, visiting neighbors, but after a while he becomes frustrated and restless with rural living and returns to New York City.

MAUREEN LINGERFELT Elderly Southern woman, 70-85; fragile; home-bound; nervous; often complains.
BRAD Maureen's oldest son, 45-60; ambitious; artistic; finds country life somewhat tedious.
FORREST Brad's brother, 40-50; factory worker; easily angered; rigid personality.
RACHEL Younger sister of Brad and Forrest, 30-40; sweet natured; helpful; loves her brothers.
MARVIN Local neighbor, 50-60; tractor salesman; cheerful; easy going.
CECIL Local neighbor, 50-60; talkative; meddlesome.
